Track and Wall Lights Installation

In May 2026, we were engaged by Mr Huigen, a homeowner in Bishan, to install track and wall lights in his residence. The scope involved mounting a track light at a specific position on a false ceiling, along with additional wall light installation. What set this project apart was the technical difficulty of retrieving concealed wiring that did not align with the desired lighting position, requiring a creative and precise approach to avoid damaging the existing ceiling structure.

The Challenge

Problem

Mr Huigen wanted a track light installed at a precise, symmetrical position on his false ceiling to achieve a clean and balanced lighting layout. However, the electrical wiring had been fully concealed during the original renovation, and the existing cable drop point did not correspond to the intended installation location. There was no direct access point aligned with where the track light needed to sit.

This created a significant technical hurdle. The false ceiling design restricted both visibility and physical access to the wiring cavity. Conventional installation methods would have required extensive hacking to locate and reroute the cables, resulting in ceiling damage, additional repair costs, and a longer project timeline. The client explicitly wanted no visible trunking and no unnecessary damage to the ceiling, which ruled out surface-mounted solutions.

Solution

Our team approached the problem methodically. We began with precise measurements to confirm the optimal installation point and mark the exact location for the track light. A small, controlled access hole was then created in the false ceiling at the target position.

To retrieve the concealed wiring without enlarging the opening, our technician fabricated a custom fishing tool on-site using a modified casing rail, bending it into a hook mechanism designed to reach and grip hidden cables within the ceiling cavity. This on-the-spot improvisation drew on years of hands-on experience with concealed wiring in HDB and condo renovations.

The installation included:

  • Track light mounted at the client's specified position with symmetrical alignment.
  • Wall light installed to complement the track lighting layout.
  • Wiring retrieved and routed through the false ceiling without visible trunking or ceiling damage.
  • All connections tested and verified for safe operation.

Key Results and Outcomes

The project was completed efficiently with a professional finish that matched the client's design intent.

Key Results:

  • Track light installed at the precise symmetrical position requested by the client.
  • Concealed wiring successfully retrieved through a minimal access hole with no rework required.
  • Clean finish achieved with no visible trunking or ceiling damage.
  • Fast completion with minimal disruption to the household.

Conclusion

This Bishan project demonstrates the value of technical experience and creative problem-solving in residential electrical work. When standard methods fall short, our team has the practical know-how to fabricate solutions on-site and deliver results that meet both functional and aesthetic expectations.

At Mr. Electrician, every installation is an opportunity to prove that quality workmanship and careful execution go hand in hand. Whether it is a straightforward lighting upgrade or a project with concealed wiring challenges, homeowners across Singapore can count on our licensed electrical contractors to deliver a safe, clean, and professional outcome.

I remember being fascinated by the interplay of surgeons in the hospital operating room when watching TV hospital series. When Mr. Electrician's technicians arrived there was clearly one leader and the other assisting. This time no scalpers changed hands but what passed from one hand to the other was not less important to the success of the mission which was to install a track light on a false ceiling. The starting position was electrical cables hanging down from a hole in the cornice. The track light was supposed to be fitted on the false ceiling symmetrically. the leader took measurements and memorized these. He subsequently created a small round hole in the false ceiling. Next he took a knife and made a few incisions and cuts in an U shaped rail those that in HDB flats usually cover electrical wires. However his served a different purpose. He had quickly created a rod and a hook on the end of that rail meant to 'fish' for the concealed wires in order to pull these through the newly created hole in a position where the track light would be positioned. 'The fishing expedition' was conducted in the blind after all the false ceiling concealed the exact location of the wires he was supposed 'to catch.' It dawned to me that i would have a hard time pulling off what the leader appeared to be setting out to do. After three failed tries the fourth one miraculously turned up the wires. I realized that the leader was an experienced person. He never lost his composure once, and knew clearly what he was doing. He was experienced and he practiced a known science. From there on the progression switched to higher gear and the job was completed soon there after along with the installation of a wall light. I give Mr. Electrician and his buddy high marks for competence and expertise. It was a joy to watch the interplay between the two mechanics that came to fruitful completion under my watchful eye. Well done Mr. Electrician. They come highly recommended.
